Jāmpavāṉ (ஜாம்பவான்) noun < Jāmbavān nominative singular of Jāmbavat.

1. Jāmbavat, the king of bears, who was long-lived and who helped Rāma at the siege of Laṅkā; நெடுங்காலம் வாழ்ந்தவனும் இராமபிரானுக்கு இலங்கைப் போரில் உதவியவனுமான கரடிவேந்தன். [nedungalam vazhnthavanum iramapiranukku ilangaip poril uthaviyavanumana karadiventhan.]

2. Long-lived person, as Jāmbavat who lived during the incarnations of Viṣṇu as Trivikrama, Rāma and Kṛṣṇa; மிகவும் முதியவன். [migavum muthiyavan.]
