jamīna (जमीन).—f ( P) Land or ground; the earth as disting. from sea, rivers, or the air. 2 The earth considered as superficially extended; terrestrial distance or space; ground. Ex. ēthūna dāhā kōsa ja0 cālalē mhaṇajē samudra lāgēla. Soil, earth, glebe, arable land. Ex. rājāpūra prāntīṃ sagaḷēṃ kātaḷa āhē ja0 thōḍī. 4 A terrace, earthen floor, or made ground. 5 The ground (of a garment &c.) as contrad. from the border. 6 The ground (of a picture). Note. For phrases not found below consult bhuī. jaminīvara pāya nāhīṃ Used of a fleet horse or a swift runner; also of a smart, active, ever-stirring and bustling man. jaminīsa pāṭha (or aṅga) lāgaṇēṃ or jaminīvara paḍaṇēṃ To be in extreme indigence; or in utter helplessness (from sickness &c.) jaminīsa pāya lāgaṇēṃ To get on one's feet (after sickness). jaminīsa miḷaṇēṃ To be razed, leveled, destroyed, overthrown, lit. fig. ja0 āsmāna ēka hōṇēṃ in. con. To be very proud. 2 To rain so as to commingle earth and heaven: also to be very dusty, misty, or hazy. ja0 ukaraṇēṃ To toe up the ground (as under guilty apprehension or embarrassment: also to paw the ground--a horse). ja0 dharaṇēṃ To lie low; to be laid up (as from sickness). 2 To yield or succumb (as under provocations &c.) ja0 sōḍaṇēṃ To appear above ground-vegetables. 2 fig. To rise from the bed of sickness; to emerge from obscurity, ignominy, poverty.
