Jalli (“tassels of palmyra leaves put round the necks of bulls”) is one of the septs (divisions) among the Jōgis (a caste of Telugu mendicants). The Jōgi mendicants go about, clad in a dirty loin-cloth (often red in colour) and a strip of cloth over the shoulders, with cobras, pythons, or rat snakes in baskets, and carrying a bag slung over the shoulder.
