Source: Apam Napat: Indian MythologyIyappa is the child born to Shiva and Vishnu, when Vishnu had assumed the Mohini avatar (bewitching woman incarnation). The story of the Mohini avatar is told here. He is also called Sastha in South India.
According to another version, he was born as the son of a royal couple in South India. He performed many feats of bravery, after which he was accepted into the pantheon as a god. His most famous temple is at Sabarimala in Kerala.
