Itihāsavid (इतिहासविद्) is an epithet ascribed to Brāhmaṇas in the Nīlamatapurāṇa.—Regarding the epithet ‘Itihāsavid’ it may be pointed out that the historical tradition has been very strong in Kaśmīra. No other part of India has produced a Kalhaṇa, and as stated in the Rājataraṅgiṇī, Kalhaṇa was preceded by many other historians on whom he drew for his history of Kaśmīra.
