Islands are regarded as the best sites for Temples, according to the Viṣṇudharmottarapurāṇa, an ancient Sanskrit text which (being encyclopedic in nature) deals with a variety of cultural topics such as arts, architecture, music, grammar and astronomy.—In the Viṣṇudharmottarapurāṇa, a strict guideline is seen for the selection of land for a temple. [...] In the Viṣṇudharmottarapurāṇa, a strict guideline is seen for the selection of land for a temple. The examination of land is strongly recommended in the Mayamata also. [...] Islands are regarded as the best sites for temples by the Viṣṇudharmottarapurāṇa as they are surrounded by water.
