1. Mercy, grace, commiseration; தயை. இரக்கமுடை யிறை யவனூர் [thayai. irakkamudai yirai yavanur] (தேவாரம் [thevaram] 145, 9).
2. Pity, compassion; melting of heart, as of a mother at the sight of her child in distress, or of a cow for her calf; மனவுருக்கம். [manavurukkam.]
3. Regret, sorrow; மனவருத்தம். உரித்தென மொழிப வாழ்க்கையு ளிரக்கம் [manavarutham. urithena mozhipa vazhkkaiyu lirakkam] (தொல். பொ. [thol. po.] 226).
