1) Ik (इक्).—Short wording (प्रत्याहार (pratyāhāra)) for the vowels इ, उ, ऋ (i, u, ) and लृ (lṛ); cf. इको यणचि (iko yaṇaci) P.VI.1.77; एच इग्घ्रस्वादेशे (eca igghrasvādeśe) P.I.1.48; इको गुणवृद्धी (iko guṇavṛddhī) P.I.1.3 इग्यणः संप्रसारणम् (igyaṇaḥ saṃprasāraṇam) P. I.1.45, इकोऽसवर्णे शाकल्यस्य ह्रस्वश्च (iko'savarṇe śākalyasya hrasvaśca) P.VI. 1.127, इको ह्रस्वोऽङ्यो गालवस्य (iko hrasvo'ṅyo gālavasya) P.VI.3. 61;

2) Ik.—kṛt. affix इक् (ik)(इ) applied to the root form to cite a root e. g. वदि, जनि (vadi, jani) etc. cf. इक्श्तिपौ धातुनिर्देशे (ikśtipau dhātunirdeśe) P. III.3.108 Vārt. 2;

3) Ik.—kṛt. affix इक् (ik) applied to the roots कृञ् (kṛñ) and others in the sense of verbal activity e.g. कृषिः, किरिः, गिरिः (kṛṣiḥ, kiriḥ, giriḥ) cf. इक् कृष्यादिभ्यः (ik kṛṣyādibhyaḥ) P.III.3.108 Vārt.8.
