Iddalu (ಇದ್ದಲು):—

1) [noun] a porous, amorphous form of carbon produced by destructive distillation of wood or other organic matter and used for decolourising sugar and food, in filters, as a gas absorbent, fuel, etc.; the black combustible substance got when water is poured on a burning coal; charcoal.

2) [noun] ಇದ್ದಲು ಮಸಿಗೆ ಬುದ್ದಿ ಹೇಳಿತು [iddalu masige buddi helitu] iddalu masige buddi hēḷitu (prov.) someone who is criticizing another for something which he himself/she herself is doing; the pot calling the kettle black.
