hukamī (हुकमी).—a (hukūma. Or H) Subject to the command or rule of. 2 Used abundantly in an idiomatic accommodation of the sense Subject; as hu0 gōḷā or -gōḷī or -tīra A ball or an arrow acknowledging the order or authority of the shooter, i. e. a sure-hitting ball or arrow; hu0 niśāna Unerring aim; v lāva, māra, pāḍa. hu0 pāūsa Certain rain, i. e. rain falling as if under command to fall; hu0 phāsā A die sure to turn up according to the will of the thrower; hu0 mātrā or -puḍī A preparation of medicine sure to act as desired; hu0 laḍhāī War or battle obedient in hand, i. e. sure to issue in conquest or victory; hu0 śista A sure aim; hu0 hatyāra An obedient weapon. Applied to bhālā, baracī, taravāra, sōṭā &c. as under command and sure to strike (not liable, as fire-arms, to miss fire); hu0 bāba An imperative right or due--a right that must be admitted. (Here the proper sense Subject is changed into the sense Authoritative.) 3 Ordered or commanded: also authorized or sanctioned. 4 Dependent upon or subject to the regulation or direction of the order; as hu0 kāra- bhāra Business that must be conducted as ordered, having no room for the exercise of discretion.
