hujūra (हुजूर).—m ( A) The royal court or presence; the hall of audience or presence-chamber: also the royal person, or the regal office and excellency as personified or as viewed concretely; answering to His Majesty, The Government &c. Used in comp. with numerous words in the sense, sometimes, of the Royal person, sometimes, of the State, sometimes, indifferently or indeterminately; as hujūrakharca The royal expenditure; hujūrakhajinā The public treasury or treasure; hujūracākarī, hujūradaphtara, hujūraśibandī, hujūra śilēdāra, hujūrasvāra, and other words, following in order. 2 hujūra, as opposed to mahālī, is applied to the Sadar station or Head quarters of a Collectorate. 3 Used as ad In, at, to, or before the presence or royal court; as mahālīṃ cōra dharalē asatīla tē hu0 pāṭhavūna dyāvē. 4 as prep In the presence of generally; as mājhē hu0, tujhē hu0.
