Hṛdodbhava (हृदोद्भव) refers to “fishes found in big lakes”, according to the Dhanvantari-nighaṇṭu. It is also known as hṛdodbhavamatsya. In the science of Āyurveda (ancient Indian healthcare), the meat of a fish (matsya) is used and prepared in balanced diets. Hṛdodbhava fish are strength-boosters. The Dhanvantarinighaṇṭu is a 10th-century medicinal thesaurus (nighaṇṭu) containing characteristics and synonyms of various herbal plants and minerals.
