Source: What is India: Annual Report on Indian Epigraphy (1945-1952)Hire-Bāsūr is an archaeologically important site situated in Hangal-taluk (Dharwar district), known for inscriptions regarding the ancient history of India. For example, at Hire-Bāsūr there is a damaged slab set up in the village which seems to record a gift of money for the offerings, etc., to the god Brahmadeva by the chief Malideva of the Jīmūtavāhana linear and others. This inscription belongs to king Sevuṇachakravarti Simhaṇadeva of the Yādava dynasty.
Another slab set up near Śiva temple outside the village Registers a gift of land, income from cess, etc., to Kalyāṇaśakti-Paṇḍita for the daily offerings, repairs, etc., and for feeding the ascetics in the temple of god Vyāseśvara constructed at Vyāsapura by Attirāja of the Kāśyapa-gotra, the lord of the town, when Bammaṇaya Daṇḍanāyaka was govering theBanavase-12000 and Kaliyamarasa of the Jīmūtavāhana lineage and Khachara race was administering the fief (maṃneya) of Bāsavūra-140 whose chief town was Vyāsapura. This inscription belongs to king Bhujabalachakravarti Bijjaladēva of the Kalachurya dynasty and is dated Śaka 1089.
