Source: Encyclopedia of Jainism: Tattvartha Sutra 7: The Five VowsHīnādhikamānonmāna (हीनाधिकमानोन्मान) refers to “using false weights and measures to buy and sell” and represents one of the five transgressions (aticara) of the “minor vow of non-stealing” (acaurya-aṇuvrata) according to the 2nd-century Tattvārthasūtra 27.—What is meant by using false weights and measures to buy and sell (hīnādhika-mānonmāna)? To use different (heavier for buying and lighter for selling than standard weights or longer yardstick for buying and shorter yardstick for selling) weights and measures for trade is using false weights and measures.
Jainism is an Indian religion of Dharma whose doctrine revolves around harmlessness (ahimsa) towards every living being. The two major branches (Digambara and Svetambara) of Jainism stimulate self-control (or, shramana, ‘self-reliance’) and spiritual development through a path of peace for the soul to progess to the ultimate goal.
