Hephaestus might be related to Utpoṣadha (father of king Māndhātar).—Professor Schiefner mentions that a suggestion has been made to the effect that “the name of Utpoṣadha may be a transformation of the Greek Hephaestus, though the part which the latter plays in the Greek myth at the birth of Athene is of a different nature.” But this seems to be going unnecessarily far.
