hātaṇī (हातणी) [or नी, nī].—f ( H) A rough glove (made of katha, hair &c.) for rubbing down horses with. 2 The quadrangular mass of masonry by the side of a well over which is constructed a waterwheel. One end of the beam of the wheel rests upon it. 3 A rude brush (of twigs or stalks) used in brushing off the husks and pebbles from the thrashing floor or sifting fan. Hence A rude broom of any kind. 4 An implement of the currier for hammering leather.
