haḷakuṇḍa (हळकुंड) [or हळखुंड, haḷakhuṇḍa].—n (haḷada & khaṇḍa) A clove of the root of turmeric. ardhyā haḷakuṇḍānēṃ pivaḷā hōṇēṃ (To be dyed yellow even with half a clove of turmeric.) To be puffed up through the acquisition or attainment of only a moderate quantity (of learning, riches, honors &c.) haḷakuṇḍāsāṭhīṃ lagna mōḍaṇēṃ To ruin or spoil a great business for the sake of a very trifling gain or saving.
