Source: Wisdom Library: Nāṭya-śāstraGurulaghusaṃcaya (गुरुलघुसंचय) or Gurulaghu or Gurulaghusaṃyoga refers to one of the three yogas or saṃyogas: rules used in the playing of drums (puṣkara) [with reference to Mṛdaṅga, Paṇava and Dardura] according to the Nāṭyaśāstra chapter 33. Accordingly, “the gurulaghu-sañcaya is light syllables with heavy ones, quick tempo, e.g. ghaṭa vimathi mathithaṃ kitaṃ gha gamgha mothikam taddham kaṭa thim karasthi maghave”. Gurulaghusaṃcaya can also be spelled as Gurulaghusañcaya.
Natyashastra (नाट्यशास्त्र, nāṭyaśāstra) refers to both the ancient Indian tradition (shastra) of performing arts, (natya—theatrics, drama, dance, music), as well as the name of a Sanskrit work dealing with these subjects.
