過去式 [guò qù shì] [guo qu shi]—
1. In languages (語言 [yu yan]) with tense variations (時態 [shi tai]), such as English (英文 [ying wen]), French (法文 [fa wen]), Japanese (日文 [ri wen]), etc., it refers to a verb tense (動詞時態 [dong ci shi tai]) that indicates actions (動作 [dong zuo]) or behaviors (行為 [xing wei]) that have become past. For example, the past tense of the English (英文 [ying wen]) verb (動詞 [dong ci]) "is" is "was".
2. It refers to things (事 [shi]) that happened in the past (以前 [yi qian]) or previously (過往 [guo wang]), generally referring mostly to irretrievable (無可挽回 [wu ke wan hui]) matters. For example: "These are all things of the past now; there's no benefit (無益 [wu yi]) in saying more."
