Greek education bears striking similarity with the picture drawn of that age by South-Indian Tamil poets of the Sangam age.—In general Greek education consisted of three main branches gymnastics, music and grammar and the Greeks ended their gymnastic exercises with an oil bath in which oil was smeared all over the body before entering the stream of water which was always close by the gymnasium. In music the Greeks learned to use the lyre with seven strings, an instrument analogous to the yal of the Sangam times.
