Source: archive.org: Shiva Purana - English TranslationGiripati (गिरिपति) refers to the “lord of mountains” and is used to describe Himācala (Himavat), according to the Śivapurāṇa 2.3.8.—Accordingly, as Brahmā narrated to Sage Nārada:—“O Nārada, after saying this to the lord of mountains, you went to heaven immediately. The lord of mountains [i.e., giripati] too, whose mind was filled with joy, returned to his palace endowed with all riches”.
The Purana (पुराण, purāṇas) refers to Sanskrit literature preserving ancient India’s vast cultural history, including historical legends, religious ceremonies, various arts and sciences. The eighteen mahapuranas total over 400,000 shlokas (metrical couplets) and date to at least several centuries BCE.
