ghaḷaṇa (घळण).—n f (ghaḷaṇēṃ) A trench, furrow, ravine &c. caused by a rush of water. 2 A slipping place.

A place to stick in, lit. fig.; a bog, a difficult stanza, a losing concern or job: also a place abounding with sharpers, swindlers, scamps; a road infested with robbers: also the state of being left in the lurch; of having to pay the piper; of being stuck &c. Ex. yandācē vyava- hārānta hajāra rupayāñcī ghā0 paḍalī; mārgāsa cāra ṭhikā- ṇīṃ ghā0 āhē sambhāḷūna jā; dāhānīṃ āpalīṃ gharēṃ bharalīṃ āṇi majavara ghā0 ghātalī or āṇalī. ghālaṇīsa paḍaṇēṃ To get into great and painful impatience.
