Gh (घ्).—(I) fourth letter of the dental class(तवर्ग (tavarga)) possessed of the properties नादानुप्रदान, घोष, कण्ठसंवृतत्व (nādānupradāna, ghoṣa, kaṇṭhasaṃvṛtatva) and महाप्रण (mahāpraṇa) ; (2) substitute ध् (dh) , for the ह् (h) of नह् (nah) before a ' jhal ' consonant or at the end of a word e. g. नद्धम्, उपानत् (naddham, upānat), cf. P. VIII. 2. 34; (3) substitute ध् (dh) for the letters त् (t) and थ् (th) placed after a fourth letter, e. g लब्धुम्, दोग्धा (labdhum, dogdhā) etc. cf. P. VIII. 2. 40.
