個人主義 [gè rén zhǔ yì] [ge ren zhu yi]—
Centered on the individual (个人 [ge ren]) or entity (个体 [ge ti]), advocating for individual freedom (个人自由 [ge ren zi you]) and rights (权利 [quan li]), respecting the assertion of individuality (个性 [ge xing]), and emphasizing independent thought (独立思考 [du li si kao]) and judgment (判断 [pan duan]), these ideas, which view individual interests (个人利益 [ge ren li yi]) and value of existence (存在价值 [cun zai jia zhi]) as more important than the interests and value of existence of the collective (集体 [ji ti]) or society (社会 [she hui]), are called individualism (个人主义 [ge ren zhu yi]). It is also known as "individualism" (个体主义 [ge ti zhu yi]).
