Gaṅgāladhar is the name of deity as found depicted in the Meenakshi Temple in Madurai (or Madura), which represents a sacred place for the worship of The Goddess (Devī).—Gaṅgāladhar, a form of Śiva, is found with four hands. The upper hands hold ḍamaru and triśūla in kaṭaka/simhakarṇa and the lower left hand holds kapāla in vismaya-hasta. In dance, the hastas used to depict Gaṅgāladhar are kapittha for holding damaru and triśūla and kuvi-pataka for holding the kapala. A dog is seen near the image.
