gaṇḍānta (गंडांत).—m (S) A common term for inauspicious periods and conjunctions enumerated in jyōtiḥśāstra. 2 also gaṇḍāntara n (S) A term for a desperate sickness, an alarming danger, an awful accident; for imminent jeopardy, boding prospects, or perilous circumstances gen. v yē, jā, cuka, ṭaḷa, vāra, nivāra, uḍa. Ex. maga citragupta bōlāvūna || patrēṃ lihilīṃ tīṃ pāhi- līṃ vācūna || dvādaśa varṣīṃ mṛtyucinha || gaṇḍāntara thōra hōtēṃ ||.
