Source: Cologne Digital Sanskrit Dictionaries: Indian Epigraphical GlossaryGāmuṇḍa.—(EI 15), Kannaḍa; same as Gāvuṇḍa; a village headman; probably derived from Grāmakūṭa, ‘headman of a village’, through Gāmaūḍa>Gāmuḍa under the influence of muṇḍa, ‘head’. Cf. Nāḍa-gāmuṇḍa Nāṟ-gāmuṇḍa, ‘headman of a district (nāḍu)’. Note: gāmuṇḍa is defined in the “Indian epigraphical glossary” as it can be found on ancient inscriptions commonly written in Sanskrit, Prakrit or Dravidian languages.
