gāḍadī (गाडदी).—m (Guarda. Port. The word, however, is found in the oldest records, and is not viewed as foreign.) A soldier, an infantry-soldier, esp. a soldier employed about the person of the Peshwa or of other Raja; a guardsman or guard. More frequently understood of Musalmans and Pardeshis so employed. Also spelled gāradī.
