佛種姓 [fu zhong xing]—Buddha's Lineage — [Term] The Buddha's race or clan (佛之種族 [fu zhi zhong zu]), referring to those who inherit and continue the Buddha's path (繼紹佛道 [ji shao fu dao]).
The Vimalakirti Sutra, Chapter on the Buddha Path (維摩經佛道品 [wei mo jing fu dao pin]), says: "Manifesting entering into lowly circumstances (示入下賤 [shi ru xia jian]) yet born within the Buddha's lineage, possessing all merits/virtues (具諸功德 [ju zhu gong de])."
The same commentary notes: "Kumarajiva (什 [shen]) says: The Buddha's lineage is precisely the patience of non-arising (無生忍 [wu sheng ren]). Sengzhao (肇 [zhao]) says: One who attains the patience of non-arising will certainly inherit the Buddha-seed (繼佛種 [ji fu zhong]); this is called being born within the Buddha's lineage."
The Amitabha Sutra (無量壽經 [wu liang shou jing]), Part 1, says: "Protect the Buddha's lineage (護佛種性 [hu fu zhong xing]) to ensure it never ceases."
Jingying's commentary (淨影疏 [jing ying shu]) on the same text says: "All perfections (or means of liberation) in the Dharma-realm (法界諸度 [fa jie zhu du]) are the Buddha's lineage."
