Five Selfishnesses:—A technical term in Buddhism corresponding to the Sanskrit mātsarya defined in the Dharma-saṃgraha (section 78). The Dharma-samgraha (Dharmasangraha) is an extensive glossary of Buddhist technical terms in Sanskrit (e.g., ‘five selfishnesses’).

  1. Selfishness regarding dharma (dharma-mātsarya),
  2. Selfishness regarding wealth (lābha-mātsarya),
  3. Selfishness regarding dwellings (āvāsa-mātsarya),
  4. Selfishness regarding wholesomeness (kuśala-mātsarya),
  5. selfishness regarding class (varṇa-mātsarya).

The work is attributed to Nagarguna who lived around the 2nd century A.D.
