翡翠水庫 [fěi cuì shuǐ kù] [fei cui shui ku]—
A reservoir. It is located in the lower reaches of the Beishi River (北勢溪 [bei shi xi]), a tributary of the Xindian River (新店溪 [xin dian xi]), in New Taipei City (新北市 [xin bei shi]). The dam is 122.5 meters (公尺 [gong chi]) high, and the reservoir's maximum water level elevation is 170 meters (公尺 [gong chi]). Its total storage capacity is approximately 406 million cubic meters (立方公尺 [li fang gong chi]). It was completed on June 30, 1987 (民國七十六年六月三十一日 [min guo qi shi liu nian liu yue san shi yi ri]), and supplies water to Taipei City (臺北市 [tai bei shi]) and the Xindian (新店 [xin dian]), Zhonghe (中和 [zhong he]), Yonghe (永和 [yong he]), Sanchong (三重 [san zhong]), Tamsui (淡水 [dan shui]), and Sanzhi (三芝 [san zhi]) districts of New Taipei City (新北市 [xin bei shi]). In addition to water supply (供水 [gong shui]), it also serves the function of power generation (發電 [fa dian]), making it a reservoir (水庫 [shui ku]) with the dual benefits of water supply (供水 [gong shui]) and power generation (發電 [fa dian]).
