放停 [fàng tíng] [fang ting]—
1. Retire and remove from the register (退役除籍 [tui yi chu ji]). From Song (宋 [song]) Dynasty, Su Shi (蘇軾 [su shi]), "Another Letter to the Emperor" (〈再上皇帝書 [zai shang huang di shu]〉): "Recently, the dismissed soldier (軍人 [jun ren]) Li Xing (李興 [li xing]) accused the Tiger Wing officer (虎翼吏 [hu yi li]) of collecting money and offering bribes (行賂 [xing lu]) to seek not being dismissed (不併 [bu bing])."
2. Gather, assemble (聚集 [ju ji]); display, exhibit (陳列 [chen lie]). From Song (宋 [song]) Dynasty, Meng Yuanlao (孟元老 [meng yuan lao]), "Dreams of Splendor in the Eastern Capital" (《東京夢華錄 [dong jing meng hua lu]》), Volume 3, "Various Goods and Sundries" (諸色雜賣 [zhu se za mai]): "Or, musicians (樂人 [le ren]) dismissed from the military camp (軍營 [jun ying]) would play drums and music (動鼓樂 [dong gu le]) in open spaces (空閑 [kong xian]), drawing children and women (小兒婦女 [xiao er fu nu]) from the streets and alleys (坊巷 [fang xiang]) to watch (觀看 [guan kan])."
