放水鴨 [fàng shuǐ yā] [fang shui ya]—
It is a metaphor for privately releasing someone who is under guard without permission, allowing them to leave. From Chapter 90 of The Plum in the Golden Vase (《金瓶梅 [jin ping mei]》): "What if you leave, and I, guarding the main gate, let the 'water ducks' (水鴨兒 [shui ya er]) go free? If Madam (大娘 [da niang]) finds out and asks me for the person, what then?"
放水鴨:比喻未經許可而私自釋放被看守的人離開。《金瓶梅》第九○回:「不爭你走了,我看守大門,管放水鴨兒?若大娘知道,問我要人,怎了?」
fàng shuǐ yā: bǐ yù wèi jīng xǔ kě ér sī zì shì fàng bèi kàn shǒu de rén lí kāi. < jīn píng méi> dì jiǔ○huí: “bù zhēng nǐ zǒu le, wǒ kàn shǒu dà mén, guǎn fàng shuǐ yā ér? ruò dà niáng zhī dào, wèn wǒ yào rén, zěn le?”
