方等三昧 [fang deng san mei]—Fangdeng Samadhi — [Term] This is a type of samadhi practice (三昧行 [san mei xing]) established by Grandmaster Tiantai (天台大師 [tian tai da shi]) based on the Dafangdeng Tuoluoni Sutra (大方等陀羅尼經 [da fang deng tuo luo ni jing]). Along with Fahua Samadhi (法華三昧 [fa hua san mei]), it is a half-walking, half-sitting samadhi (半行半坐三昧 [ban xing ban zuo san mei]) among the Four Kinds of Samadhi (四種三昧 [si zhong san mei]). Solely practicing its method and rectifying one's mind is called samadhi. The second part of Zhiguan (止觀 [zhi guan]) and the practice methods of Fangdeng Samadhi detail its rituals and procedures.
