法身無相 [fa shen wu xiang]—The Dharma-kāya (法身 [fa shen]) is formless (無相 [wu xiang]) — [Technical term (術語 [shu yu])] See appendix for the Dharma-kāya entry.

(Dharma-kāya) [Technical term] The Nirvana Sutra (涅槃經 [nie pan jing]), Chapter 31, states: "Therefore, Nirvana is called formless (無相 [wu xiang]), good man, because it is without the ten signs. What are these ten? Namely, the sign of form (色相 [se xiang]), the sign of sound (聲相 [sheng xiang]), the sign of smell (香相 [xiang xiang]), the sign of taste (味相 [wei xiang]), the sign of touch (觸相 [chu xiang]), the signs of arising, dwelling, and ceasing (生住壞相 [sheng zhu huai xiang]), the male sign (男相 [nan xiang]), and the female sign (女相 [nu xiang]) — these are called the ten signs."

The Mahāyāna Samatā Sutra (大乘同性經 [da cheng tong xing jing]), Fascicle 2, states: "The true Dharma-kāya of the Tathāgata (如來 [ru lai]) is: without form, without manifestation, without attachment, invisible, without verbal expression, without dwelling place, without signs (無相 [wu xiang]), without retribution, without arising, without ceasing, without analogy."

The Vijñaptimātratā-siddhi Śāstra (唯識論 [wei shi lun]), Chapter 10, states: "The intrinsic body (自性身 [zi xing shen]) possesses only the true permanence, bliss, self, and purity (常樂我淨 [chang le wo jing]); it is free from all defilements, is the basis of all virtues, and is unconditioned (無為 [wu wei]) merit, without differentiated signs and functions such as form or mind."

【術語】涅槃經三十一曰:「是故涅槃名為無相,善男子無十相故。何等為十?所謂色相,聲相,香相,味相,觸相,生住壞相,男相,女相,是名十相。」大乘同性經下曰:「如來真法身者:無色,無現,無著,不可見,無言說,無住處,無相,無報,無生,無滅,無譬喻。」唯識論十曰:「自性身唯有真實常樂我淨,離諸雜染,眾善所依無為功德,無色心等差別相用。」
