法華懺法 [fa hua chan fa]—Lotus Repentance Ritual — [Practice Method (修法 [xiu fa])] Great Master Tiantai (天台大師 [tian tai da shi]), drawing on the essence of the Lotus Sutra (法華經 [fa hua jing]), the Samantabhadra Contemplation Sutra (普賢觀經 [pu xian guan jing]), and various other Mahayana sutras (大乘經 [da cheng jing]), formulated the ritual methods for the repentance of the six sense organs (六根懺悔 [liu gen chan hui]). He authored a one-volume work titled Practice Method for the Lotus Samadhi (法華三昧行法 [fa hua san mei xing fa]), also known as Ritual for the Lotus Samadhi Repentance (法華三昧懺儀 [fa hua san mei chan yi]). The version that became popular in the world, extracted from this work, is the Lotus Repentance Ritual. However, the practice of this method has been transmitted starting from Great Master Nanyue (南嶽大師 [nan yue da shi]).
[Practice Method] Tiantai Zhiyi (智者 [zhi zhe]) devised the ritual procedures for practitioners to engage in the Lotus Samadhi. This is what is known as the Practice Method for the Lotus Samadhi (法華三昧行法 [fa hua san mei xing fa]).
