二十九有 [er shi jiu you]—Twenty-nine Existences — [Numerical Term (名數 [ming shu])] As in the saying "six sense bases, thirteen entrances, nineteen realms" (六陰十三入十九界 [liu yin shi san ru shi jiu jie]) [a phrase used to denote something that is utterly non-existent], it refers to the absolute non-existence of things. A first-stage saint (初果聖者 [chu guo sheng zhe]) considers twenty-eight existences (二十八有 [er shi ba you]) as the maximum; there is no twenty-ninth existence (第 [di]) for them. The Daśabhūmika Vibhāṣā Śāstra (十住毘婆沙論 [shi zhu pi po sha lun]), Volume 1, states: "When a person attains the path of Stream-entry (須陀洹道 [xu tuo huan dao]) (i.e., the first fruit), they effectively close the doors to the three evil paths. They see the Dharma, enter the Dharma, and obtain the Dharma, abiding in the firm Dharma, unshakeable. Ultimately reaching Nirvana, they greatly rejoice in their hearts because they have eliminated the defilements eradicated by the insight into the truths. Even if they are lazy or sleeping, they will not experience the twenty-ninth existence."

[Numerical Term] Also refers to twenty-nine births (二十九生 [er shi jiu sheng]).
