1. To write; எழுத்துவரைதல். [ezhuthuvaraithal.]
2. To paint, draw; சித்திரம்வரைதல். எழுதுங்காற் கோல்காணாக் கண்ணேபோல் [sithiramvaraithal. ezhuthungar kolkanag kannepol] (திருக்குறள் [thirukkural], 1285).
3. To write, as author; to compose; இயற்றுதல். அவன் ஒருநூல் எழுதியுள்ளான். [iyarruthal. avan orunul ezhuthiyullan.]
4. To foreordain, predestine, as Brahmā by writing on the head; விதியேற்படுத் தல். இட்டமுட னென்றலையி லின்னபடி யென்றெழுதி விட்டசிவனும் [vithiyerpaduth thal. ittamuda nenralaiyi linnapadi yenrezhuthi vittasivanum] (தனிப்பாடற்றிரட்டு [thanippadarrirattu] i, 119, 1).
