Ekāyu (एकायु).—a.
1) providing the most excellent food.
2) the first living being. एकायुरग्रे विश आविवाससि (ekāyuragre viśa āvivāsasi) Ṛgveda 1.31.5.
Ekāyu is a Sanskrit compound consisting of the terms eka and āyu (आयु).
Ekāyu (एकायु):—[from eka] mfn. affording excellent food or the chief vigour of life, [Ṛg-veda i, 31, 5.]
Ekāyu (एकायु):—(eka + āyu) adj. die Lebendigen vereinend, um sich sammelnd: ekāyu.agne.viśa ā.ivāsati [Ṛgveda 1, 31, 5]; bei Vergleichung mit [11] liesse sich verstehen: der einzige d. h. erste Lebendige, dabei wäre aber Oxytonirung erforderlich.
