The Ekavyaharaka school of Buddhism split from the Mahasamghikas during the reign of Asoka. The Ekavyaharikas emphasized the transcendence of the Buddha, asserting that he was eternally enlightened and essentially non physical. The Lokottaravada may be an offshoot of the Ekavyaharikas.
