Puruṣottamadeva has used this term in his Bhāṣāvṛtti to contrast his Vṛtti (भाषावृत्ति (bhāṣāvṛtti)) with the Kāśikāvṛtti and the Bhāgavṛtti which deal with both the portions; cf.अनार्ष इत्येकवृत्तावुपयुक्तम् (anārṣa ityekavṛttāvupayuktam) Bhāṣāvṛtti on I.1.16, cf.also Bhāṣāvṛtti on III. 4.99, IV.3.22 and VI.3.20.एकवृत्ति (ekavṛtti) is possibly used by Puruṣottamadeva in the sense of मुख्यवृत्ति (mukhyavṛtti) or साधा-रणवृत्ति (sādhā-raṇavṛtti) i. e. the common chief gloss on both the portions.
Vyakarana (व्याकरण, vyākaraṇa) refers to Sanskrit grammar and represents one of the six additional sciences (vedanga) to be studied along with the Vedas. Vyakarana concerns itself with the rules of Sanskrit grammar and linguistic analysis in order to establish the correct context of words and sentences.
