Source: Encyclopedia of Jainism: Tattvartha Sutra 9: Influx of karmasEkatvavitarkavicāra (एकत्ववितर्कविचार).—The second of the four types of pure meditation (śukla-dhyāna);—Ekatva means oneness. So in this type of meditation, the practitioner, without surfing from one to another substance /mode/word /number and based on scriptural knowledge contemplates on one subject only.
Ekatvavitarkavicāra can occur in the twelfth stage of spiritual purification (guṇasthānas) as known as ‘complete self-restrain with eliminated passions’.
The peculiarity of ekatvavitarkavicāra (‘unitary contemplation’) is that it involves scriptural knowledge (vitarka) but is devoid of shifting (vīcāra).
