The Eight Great Men are known in Tibetan as: skyes mchod brgyad.—They represent the The eight immortals of Daoist tradition.—There are histories of the famous badong shengxian, or “eight great men,” and others who attained the worldly supernormal powers, and of the mighty Zhang Dashi, who intimidated many wicked spirits and commanded all the local and guardian deities in the area of the present-day great palace in Beijing.
The Eight Great Men are:
- Zhong Liquan,
- Zhang Guolao,
- Lu Dongbin,
- Li Tieguai,
- He Xiangu,
- Nan Caihe,
- Han Xiangzi, and
- Chao Guojiu.

Tibetan Buddhism includes schools such as Nyingma, Kadampa, Kagyu and Gelug. Their primary canon of literature is divided in two broad categories: The Kangyur, which consists of Buddha’s words, and the Tengyur, which includes commentaries from various sources. Esotericism and tantra techniques (vajrayāna) are collected indepently.
