多聞部 [duo wen bu]—Bahuśrutīya — [School] One of the twenty Hinayana (小乘 [xiao cheng]) schools. This school separated from the Mahāsāṃghika (大眾部 [da zhong bu]) approximately two hundred years after the Buddha's Parinirvana. It was named after the virtues of its school leader. The Zonglun Lun Shuji (宗輪論述記 [zong lun lun shu ji]) states: "Having extensively studied the Tripitaka (三藏 [san cang]) and deeply understood the Buddha's words. It is named after virtue, called the Bahuśrutīya, because the Vinaya (律 [lu]) master at that time possessed the virtue of extensive learning."
多聞部—【流派】小乘二十部之一。佛滅後二百年頃自大眾部中分出之派。從部主之德而名。宗輪論述記曰:「廣學三藏,深悟佛言。從德為名,名多聞部,當時律主具多聞德也。」
