Wiggers or “common dandelion” from the Asteraceae or “aster” family of flowering plants, according to verse 5.98-99 of the 13th-century Raj Nighantu or Rājanighaṇṭu. Dugdhaphenī is commonly known in Hindi as Duddhala or Dudhalī (or Dudhīlā) or Kānphūla (kānaphūla, kanphul, kanful); in Marathi as Bathur; in Gujarati as Pāthardī; and in Kashmiri as Hand.
Dugdhaphenī is mentioned as having six synonyms: Payaḥphenī, Phenadugdhā, Payasvinī, Lūtāri, Vraṇaketu and Gojāparṇī.
Properties and characteristics: “Dugdhaphenī is pungent (kaṭu), bitter (tikta), cooling (śiśira) and antidote to poisons. It cures wounds and increases appetite. If used intelligently, it acts as rasāyanī (rejuvenating)”.
