度僧 [du seng]—Ordination of Monks — [Ritual (儀式 [yi shi])] It is the act of ordaining people to become monks. The term 'Du (度 [du])' means to exit and to leave. It means to depart from the secular world (俗 [su]), and also to escape the cycle of birth and death (生死 [sheng si]). Hence, it is called 'Du'.
度僧—【儀式】度人為僧也。度者出也離也。出離俗也,又出離生死也。故云度。
