Doṅgara (दोङ्गर) refers to a “small mountain”, as occurring in the Anekāntajayapatākā-prakaraṇa, a Śvetāmbara Jain philosophical work written by Haribhadra Sūri.—[Cf. Vol. I, P. 266, l. 30 & p. 267, l. 12]—The word ‘doṅgara’ is a ‘Deśya’ word, and interpreted as a small mountain. Cf. the Gujarati word ‘duṅgara’.

ḍōṅgara (डोंगर).—m A hill. Used fig. of an arduous work, a grievous sickness, a heavy amount of debt, sin, merit, trouble, calamity &c. Pr. ḍōṅgarāsa dukhaṇēṃ āṇi śimpīnta auṣadha; durūna ḍōṃ0 sājarā; ḍōṃ0 khaṇūna undīra kāḍhaṇēṃ; ḍōṃ0 cē āvaḷē āṇi samudrācēṃ mīṭha; kāḍīāḍa ḍōṃ0. 2 fig. (Opp. to cūla q. v.) Lampblack forming in a conical or solid mass. Terms used when prognostics are sought to determine the sex of a child about to be born. 3 C The first field of nācaṇī sown on a cleared hilly spot. 4 C High and dry land fit only for the dry grains. ḍōṅgarāvarūna uḍī ṭākaṇēṃ Said in ironical amplification of an insignificant matter performed, of a paltry gift given &c. ḍōṅgarī divā lāvaṇēṃ To kindle a lamp in (to people or inhabit) the hills. As villagers, fleeing from the Penḍharis or other marauders, were wont to do.
