冬瓜 [dōng guā] [dong gua]—
Plant name. An annual climbing herbaceous plant of the family Cucurbitaceae (葫蘆科 [hu lu ke]), genus Benincasa (屬 [shu]). Its stem has tendrils, leaves are palmately lobed, and it bears yellow flowers, being monoecious. Its fruit, also called "winter melon", is spherical or long cylindrical; large fruits can be over a foot in diameter and two to three feet long, with a hairy surface and a white powdery coating. It is edible.
冬瓜:植物名。葫蘆科冬瓜屬,一年生攀緣草本。莖上有捲鬚,葉子分裂如掌狀,開黃花,雌雄同株。果實也稱為「冬瓜」,呈球形或長圓柱形,結實大者徑尺餘,長二、三尺,表面有毛和白粉,可食用。
