凋敗 [diāo bài] [diao bai]—
Withered and dilapidated (枯萎殘敗 [ku wei can bai]). From Chapter 40 of The Scholars (《儒林外史 [ru lin wai shi]》): "Looking at the mountain, the trees (樹木 [shu mu]) were withered and desolate, and the scene (光景 [guang jing]) was bleak and chilling (凜凜冽冽 [lin lin lie lie]) from being blown by the north wind (北風 [bei feng]). Then snowflakes (雪花 [xue hua]) floated down from the sky."
凋敗:枯萎殘敗。《儒林外史》第四○回:「看那山上,樹木凋敗,又被北風吹的凜凜冽冽的光景,天上便飄下雪花來。」
diāo bài: kū wēi cán bài. < rú lín wài shǐ> dì sì○huí: “kàn nà shān shàng, shù mù diāo bài, yòu bèi běi fēng chuī de lǐn lǐn liè liè de guāng jǐng, tiān shàng biàn piāo xià xuě huā lái.”
