Source: Shodhganga: Drumavichitrikarnam—Plant mutagenesis in ancient IndiaDhūkṣaṇa (धूक्षण) refers to “kindling”, as prescribed by certain bio-organical recipes for plant mutagenesis, according to the Vṛkṣāyurveda by Sūrapāla (1000 CE): an encyclopedic work dealing with the study of trees and the principles of ancient Indian agriculture.—Accordingly, “A tree drops away its fruits and flowers if watered by the decoction of Dolichos biflorus. Butea monosperma, Terminalia arjuna and Clerodendrum phlomidis (drop away their fruits and flowers) by feeding with salt or by kindling (dhūkṣaṇa)”.
